Petition in Support of the Right to a Referendum

It is without question that supporting the suspension of term limits in Venezuela may seem counter-intuitive to many.

However, we would be well served by remembering that the U.S. Presidency had no term limits until the Republicans decided to impose them on FDR.

Below please find a link for the petition being circulated by the Venezuela Solidarity Network and a link to a related video, a song that expresses the feelings of the great majority of Venezuelan citizens.

As much as some may have doubts, the reality is that this is not about Chavez but it really is about "El Pueblo" having a chance.

The concept of "El Pueblo" is a main concept that we all need to keep in mind.

"El Pueblo."

Evo and the Bolivian people understand this.

The Venezuelan people understand it as well.

Most of us are "del pueblo."

In other words, we are working class folks.

The project that is called "Venezuela" is far from finished.

It probably won't be finished for quite a while.

Simon Bolivar had some ideas about this "project" but his ideas are yet to come to fruition but the Venezuelan people are trying hard to bring them to fruition.

That said, if the old guard grabs power again (so-called "Social Democrats" and "Christian Democrats") nothing will ever change.

Every Venezuelan understands this simple fact.

Most people outside of Venezuela have no concept of what this all means.

In fact, this old guard will make sure that the vast majority of Venezuelans never have a chance for access to education, health care, or a job that pays a decent wage that supports a family.

We'd like to suggest that you join the effort in Venezuela by signing the following petition. We all know that this effort is only symbolic but such symbolic efforts have an effect.

In fact, Senator Obama probably won the election to the Presidency of the United States because more than a few of us thought that we were fighting for something that seemed symbolic but was more than that.
