The new
socialist president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, is making it
clear that his country is on the road towards new socialist
change, a revolution of the people.
"This country cannot continue to live within the economic
standards of the past 20 years, caused by the policies imposed
by Washington, which have been disastrous for Ecuador and
Latin America.”

Last
December, Hugo Chavez announced his idea for a Banco del Sur,
or Bank of the South, as part of his crusade against the institutions
of international capital he calls "tools of Washington."
The bank will be officially launched at a presidential November
3 summit in Caracas, where it's to be headquartered, with
seven founding member-states - Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil,
Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Ecuador.

The
constitutional reform project introduced by the Venezuelan
President has provoked an unprecedented media frenzy but only
concentrated on the proposed change that would repeal the
limit on presidential terms. However, neither France,
United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and most other European nations
have presidential term limits. Why is it that what is acceptable
in the West is not acceptable for Third World nations?

Regrettably, the US media coverage
of Venezuela’s RCTV controversy says more about the deficiencies of
our own news media that it does about Venezuela. It demonstrates
again, as with the invasion of Iraq, how our news media are far too
willing to carry water for Washington than to ascertain and report
the truth of the matter. Here are some of the facts and some of the
context that the media have omitted or buried.

Mass education on
Venezuela to build solidarity and Support
September 7, 2007
The US government and
corporate media campaign to vilify Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
and the Bolivarian process has made inroads into the US progressive
movement and media. The relentless drum beat of criticism, false
claims of dictatorial powers, civil rights violations, and reckless
economic policies, have confused even those on the Left and weakened
the young movement against US intervention in Venezuela.
A
proposed
symposium seeks to address the information disparity that
exists in the Left community surrounding the Bolivarian Revolution
unfolding in Venezuela.
